30 Days with iPhone Day 7 - Battery Life

I’m starting to get worried about the en-el8  battery life on my iPhone. Not that there’s anything wrong with it now, of course. I’m worrying about what it’s going to be like in 12-18 months.

I haven’t yet had a chance to really test how strong my iPhone’s blm1 , li-10b and li-12b battery is. I haven’t had a day where I was out and about all day, without a chance to get home and plug my phone in to make sure that it’s got a good charge. Despite my lack of scientific analysis, it seems as though the bp-2l12  battery runs down pretty quickly.

There are a lot of reasons for this, of course, chief among them being that I tend to spend a lot of time using the features of the iPhone that most tax its   bp-930 , bp-945 battery. The WiFi feature is particularly battery draining and that’s how I like to do my web browsing and email downloading whenever possible. I’ve been doing a lot of that.

About.com’s guide to Macs, Rachael Smithey, has some tips for conserving iPhone bn-v12u  battery life which include turning off services like WiFi, Bluetooth, and reducing the screen’s brightness. All good ideas, but I like having my WiFi on all the time — you find open hotspots all over the place.

So, if I’m going to keep using WiFi whenever possible on the iPhone — and I am, otherwise, the iPhone is just a really fancy cell phone, and that’s not what I bought it for — then I’m going to have to charge the phone regularly. Apple says that the iPhone will be able to handle up to 400 full charge and discharge cycles before it starts to lose its ability to hold some charge.

  bn-v408 , bn-v416 , bn-v428 , bn-vf707 , bn-vf714 , bn-vf733  all batteries lose their ability to hold a charge eventually, so that’s no surprise. But, since the iPhone’s battery can’t be replaced by the customer, it has to be sent to Apple for repair. I don’t love that idea or the $86 charge that goes along with it, but what worries me more is that the iPhone is my only phone for personal and business use. I can’t be without it for the week it takes to send to Apple for replacement. What will I do in that time?

Of course, it’s very early to be worrying about these issues. But they are looming over the horizon. I hope there’s a better solution to them when they appear than there seems to be now.

NEC Develops Organic Battery For IT Use

TOKYO-- NEC researchers say they have developed a new type of rechargeable  btp-63d1 battery that is based on organic compounds and could be useful in a wide range of IT-related applications.

The Organic Radical batcl50l Battery, or ORB, is based on a similar cell structure to a lithium ion battery, of the type commonly found in devices such as notebook computers and cell phones, but with one significant difference: instead of using poisonous ingredients like lithium and cobalt, it uses an organic compound called PTMA.

The change not only makes the battery more environmentally friendly but also delivers some properties that could make it better suited to certain applications than existing travelmate 290 , travelmate 4000 , travelmate 2300 batteries, said Masaharu Satoh, principal researcher and NEC's energy device technology group in Tsukuba, Japan.

More Power, Less Time
Chief among these is a high power density, which indicates how much power can be supplied for its size. An ORB can deliver much more power than a lithium ion aspire 1680 series  battery of the same size. However the energy density, which relates to how long the power can be supplied, is lower than lithium ion. This combination points towards applications where a large amount of power is needed for a short time, said Satoh.

One such application--providing enough power to allow a PC to backup data and , aspire 1410 shutdown properly in the event of a main power failure--has been used by Satoh and his team to demonstrate the technology. Four of the small, thin ORB cells are all that's required to keep a desktop PC running for the 10 or 20 seconds required to carry out such an operation, he said.

It's not the same as an uninterruptible power supply (UPS), lcbtp03003 , aspire 1300 , which can typically power a PC for about an hour, but the small size and likely low cost or the ORB means it could potentially become a standard feature inside desktop PCs, unlike UPS units which are bulky and expensive.

The prototype cells measure 2.1 inches by 1.7 inches, are 0.1 inch thick, which is about the same size a stack of 3 credit cards. Each cell weighs less than 1 ounce.

Other Advantages

The ORB has other advantages over current rechargeable nb-2lh , nb-4l , nb-3l , nb-5h , nb-5l battery  technologies too, Satoh said. It's able to maintain an almost constant voltage during discharge and also loses its ability to be fully charged at a much slower rate than competitors.

The battery can also be charged very fast. With enough current supplied this battery np-fc10 , np-fc11 , np-fe1 , np-fr1  can be charged to about 80 percent of its capacity in just one minute, which could make it suitable for wireless applications where fast charging is advantageous, said Satoh.

Another advantage that comes from its close structure to Lithium Ion is that the manufacturing process is very similar and so mass production, when or if it occurs, could likely be done on existing en-el1 , en-el3 , en-el5 , en-el9  battery production lines with only minor adjustments, said Satoh.

Some more work remains on fine-tuning the ORB and NEC plans to also spend the next 2 to 3 years working on possible uses for the technology as it moves towards possible commercialization.

NEC began researching the technology in 2000 and its work has been partly funded by Japan's New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization (NEDO).

Overall, I was very impressed with APC's Back-UPS RS 1500VA LCD 120V UPS. Among the many UPS devices from APC that I've used, this is by far their best model yet.

I was reminded of how heavy UPS devices can be as I opened the box. It's not just this UPS - all backup systems are going to be heavy. The Back-UPS RS 1500VA LCD 120V comes in at about 30lbs.

The first step was to open the Back-UPS RS 1500VA LCD 120V, remove the internal m8511 ,m8244 batteries and connect them to the unit. The diagrams for this step were a bit confusing and lacked a written description. A novice might have problems getting past this first step.

Toshiba Shows Prototype Fast-charging Laptop Battery

Toshiba showed off a prototype of its fast-charging SCiB  pa3383u-1brs battery designed for laptops on Tuesday, but said the technology is still a ways off from making its way into computers.

SCiB, or Super Charge Ion Batteries, are designed to recharge to 90 percent capacity within 10 minutes, and will last longer and endure more recharge cycles than current lithium-ion batteries.

SCiB are also safer and will not explode when crushed, as lithium hp f2299a battery   may, Toshiba said. This is because SCiB batteries use a material with a higher level of thermal stability and are designed with safeguards against short circuits or overheating.

SCiB  hp f3172a battery can endure 5,000 to 6,000 recharge cycles, compared to around 500 cycles for standard lithium-ion batteries, according to a Toshiba executive manning the company's booth at the Ceatec exhibition in Chiba, Japan.

I have a laptop at home which I use as a desktop replacement. As such, 99% of the time the laptop is being used it is plugged in. The compaq 319411-001 battery should be re-installed every 3-4 weeks and allowed to fully discharge. Leaving a battery in storage for longer than this without using could cause the battery to fully discharge as the circuitry of the battery itself consumes power.

Leaving a battery in a laptop while using an electrical outlet for long periods of time will keep the compaq presario 2100 battery in a constant state of charging up and that will reduce the life cycle of the battery.

Remember that when you have removed the compaq presario 2500 battery  from a laptop while using with an electrical outlet – the automatic battery backup is no longer functional. Make sure to plug your laptop into an uninterrupted power source (UPS) not directly into an outlet or surge protector.
