Radio, which was once the backbone of family entertainment, still accompanies us in the dark hours of the night, during long highway excursions, and through some rather impossibly unique moments when we need the chronic drone of another human voice. Radio still maintains its place among mantles and corner stereo systems but we all have to admit, the video had a lot to do with the radio’s death. Or did it? There really isn’t music on MTV or VH1 any more and there is no place else to grab a sense of the up and coming stars other than the new and improved satellite radio starts that offer us a new perspective. Satellite radio has given us Raw Dog and Blue Collar Comedy which far outweighs the gentle humor of even HBO’s once famous New Years Eve special. No, radio wasn’t killed by the video but it was killed by the increased technology of the satellite radio. How can it be that one form of radio killed another? Because the human race is bored stiff with commercialism and regular radio is just another form of over commercialized taxation that none of us want to hear. We would rather pay every month to hear the newest and rawest edge on the radio rather than be sold on one more idea, one more product, or one more political concept. We are a race that is slowly finding ways to avoid the static commercialism of the radio. Video didn’t kill the radio star, but commercial free radio is totally drowning it.
